About Me

Hi! My name is Monica and I started this project as a part of my Girl Scout Gold Award. The idea for this topic came to me quite organically. I was volunteering at a local soup kitchen and noticed that lots of food scraps are thrown away. This made me realize, the same is true at home. Seeing so much food get wasted inspired me to make a change and led me to discover how impactful composting is. I realized it was a powerful yet unknown tool against climate change and I decided to make it the topic of my Gold award in order to inform and educate others in my community about what I had learned.

Since then, I've definitely learned a lot about composting, but what surprised me the most was how easy it is. All you have to do is throw your scraps in the compost bin, and eventually drop them off. Since my family has started composting, we are more mindful of food waste and taking other environmentally conscious steps (like trying to use less plastic) in our daily lives. I plan to continue educating my community about composting in our area, food waste, and climate change as I learn more. I know a lot of us worry about the even hotter summers every year and this is such an easy and simple act we can all take to make a difference. If you have any suggestions for this website, please let me know in the contact page, I would love to hear them!!
In my free time, I love playing with my dog, bird watch in my backyard (I've started to leave out blueberries for the birds, so its really entertaining to watch them eat them!), cooking, baking, doing my nails, singing, and spending time with my family and friends.
